Environmental protection and containment works ALCOA Site

Works completed:

Project overview

Cos.Idra took part in the construction of retaining works and environmental safety measures along the South Industrial Canal in Porto Marghera, in the section facing the ALCOA site in Fusina. The project formed part of the remediation and redevelopment programme for the Venice National Site of Interest and was carried out in a highly complex industrial and environmental setting.

Scope of works

The works included reinforced concrete diaphragm walls for containment and isolation, structural wall panels and connecting beams, steel sheet pile installation, groundwater drainage systems and pipelines for wastewater transfer. The project also involved the management and treatment of excavated materials, including contaminated soils. The new retaining line extended for approximately 525 metres.

Operational challenges

The project required constant coordination between the joint venture partners, public authorities, the supervising engineer and control bodies, while complying with particularly strict environmental and regulatory requirements. Complexity arose from the integration of structural works, environmental systems and construction activities within an active industrial area.

Results

The project contributed to the environmental safety and containment of the area, integrating structural, hydraulic and material management activities within a highly complex industrial context.
