Project overview

Along the South Industrial Canal in Marghera (Venice), Cos.Idra carried out ground improvement and strengthening works on the quay retaining structures in a port-industrial area characterised by complex geotechnical conditions and the presence of existing infrastructure.

Scope of works

To meet the project requirements, we delivered specialist ground engineering works including the installation of self-drilling grouted anchors to depths of approximately 38 metres, together with high-pressure jet grouting columns up to around 800 mm in diameter and 22 metres deep.

Operational challenges

The works required particularly careful planning and execution, as they were carried out close to the existing steel sheet piling, in restricted working areas and with potential interference from nearby structures. Careful planning and the use of specialist equipment made it possible to manage these constraints safely and effectively.

Results

The project significantly improved the stability and strength of the retaining structures, making a tangible contribution to the safety and long-term durability of the quay in a highly complex port environment.
