Project overview

As part of the refurbishment of the “Ala Ex Suore” section of Palazzo Ruspoli, in the historic centre of Florence, Cos.Idra carried out foundation strengthening works in support of the redevelopment of the existing building. The project was delivered in a setting of significant historic and architectural value, requiring full respect for construction constraints and the existing structures.

Scope of works

The works involved foundation micropiles to strengthen the existing structures, with lengths of up to approximately 6 metres. The project also included the supply and installation of steel reinforcement to ensure strength, stability and long-term durability.

Operational challenges

The site was located in a complex urban setting in the historic centre of Florence, with restricted working space and existing buildings that had to be protected. Particular attention was required to control vibration, manage interferences with the existing structures and coordinate with other contractors on site.

Results

The project made it possible to strengthen the existing foundations in a particularly sensitive historic setting, creating the conditions needed to continue the refurbishment works safely and in full compatibility with the building’s structure.
